CONVENTIONS & CONFERENCESEvery year the American Birding Association organizes events as a service to its membership. The meetings are always held in prime birding areas, usually in the United States or Canada, though we have expanded to include successful conferences at other sites in the Neotropics in recent years. Both conventions and conferences offer exciting field trips to local birding hot-spots led by expert ABA members, interesting workshops and programs, socials, and evening dinners with entertaining speakers. The focus is always on birds and birding. Membership in ABA is required to attend the meetings. Conventions Conventions usually attract more members. They are multi-day events and, in addition to the features mentioned above, include ABA Sales on-site, an authors' book signing, artists, exhibitors, contests, awards, and a general membership meeting. The format usually involves field trips on every other day. There are options to attend the entire meeting or to select various events "a la carte." The fees are usually inclusive, except for the hotel accommodations. Conferences Conferences usually accommodate fewer attendees. They are multi-day events and include field trips every day and a half day workshop. The fees are inclusive and usually include the hotel accommodations.
